Frequently Asked Questions

Does your practice take insurance?

Unfortunately, insurance companies do not cover naturopathic care in California. It is not up to the doctor to decide whether to take insurance in this case. All services are self-pay and fees are due at the time of the visit. However, we do accept FSA and HSA cards, which you can also use to pay for labs and supplements. We can provide superbills for tax write-off purposes.

Can you be my primary care doctor?

Because we are not covered by insurance, we usually recommend that you maintain a conventional primary care doctor. This is helpful in the event that you need conventional labs or imaging, which they can order for you through your insurance. However, we are happy to be your go-to healthcare provider in addressing acute concerns like colds and flus, ear infections, UTIs, etc. If you do not have an outside primary care provider, we can order labs and imaging for you, but you may need to pay out of pocket for these services.

Why are visits so long?

Naturopathic medicine is about getting to the root cause of your illness and finding long-term solutions. It takes time to understand a patient’s history and put the pieces together. We spend a lot of time discussing ways to cultivate health in your daily life, so that you feel empowered. This is an alternative to the rushed, reductionist, and cost-driven model of mainstream healthcare.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments must be cancelled at least 48 hours prior to the visit; otherwise they are billed at the full visit fee. The same policy applies to patients who miss an appointment. This is because it is difficult to fill appointment slots at the last minute. Our office sends out appointment reminders 3 days before your visit, so that you have a full day to cancel or reschedule if needed.

What’s the best way to contact you?

You can use the “Contact” form on our website, call, or email us to inquire about scheduling an initial appointment. If you are an established patient, please use the patient portal whenever possible for the quickest response. You may also call us if needed.

Do I have to use the patient portal?

We take patient privacy very seriously. According to HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), only certain secure forms of communication are permitted between healthcare providers and patients. This includes secure messaging, phone calls, and faxes. It does not include emails or text messages. We want to protect your health info, and as such cannot respond to emails or texts that contain confidential information.

What do I do if I have a question about the supplements I ordered on Fullscript?

The quickest way to get an answer to questions about supplement orders is to contact Fullscript directly. They have full access to your order and shipping information. If something you were prescribed is out of stock and you’d like a replacement product, you can request one on the Fullscript website and they will notify me. I can then recommend a replacement product for you and it will be included in your chart.

How do I submit documents, labs, and other medical records to you?

The best way to submit documents is through the patient portal. This ensures that it becomes a part of your medical record. Simply upload your records under “Documents” or “Labs” and make sure to click “Share.” Then select Dr. Caspi as the provider you would like to share them with. If you do not click “share,” we will not be able to view them on our side.

Can I schedule an IV treatment without establishing care?

There are many IV bars administering IVs to patients without taking a history or running labs beforehand. The truth is that these IVs are very diluted and weak, and not worth the cost of getting them. As Dr. Caspi says, “you might as well take a multivitamin and drink a quart of water.” The IV therapies administered in our practice are high-dose and tailored to the specific patient. Because of this, we need to take a thorough history and review labs prior to beginning therapy in order to know what you need. The short answer is that in most cases, patients will need to establish care. Recent labs ordered by another provider may be used, as long as they cover the relevant markers.

Can I get a B12 shot without establishing care?

Yes, you can get B vitamin injections at our practice without being an established patient. B vitamins are generally non-toxic and excess amounts are excreted in the urine. As long as they are administered by a competent provider, they are normally very safe.
