Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a unique system of medicine that differs from conventional medicine in several key areas.

Firstly, it addresses the root cause of illness. Rather than masking symptoms with drugs or surgery, we look at how disease is created, and figure out what we need to change to restore balance in the long-term.

Because of this, naturopathic medicine is heavily lifestyle-based. Together, we’ll figure out how to modify your daily habits so that over time, you need fewer and fewer corrective measures, such as medications or supplements.

We use natural therapies to treat concerns whenever possible. Natural medicines come from nature, like us, instead from a lab. Many herbal medicines have co-evolved with humans for millennia and interact with our physiology in nuanced and elegant ways. Often, they do not cause side effects to the extent that pharmaceuticals can.

Naturopathic medicine is empowering, patient-centered, and based on a partnership between the doctor and patient. This means that your voice matters, as does your commitment to healing. You may be asked to change how you think about and treat your body in your day-to-day life. My job is to give you the tools and education to take good care of yourself. Your job is to implement them.

Here are some areas we typically cover in a naturopathic visit:

Nutrition

We will review your diet in detail and come up with solutions for any imbalances we see, either in your habits, symptoms, or labs. Sometimes I use specialty lab testing to help identify any food triggers that may be aggravating you. Since every person is different, I tailor my recommendations to you. There is no one-size-fits-all diet that works for everyone.

Sleep

Good sleep is critical to longevity. Many people suffer from sleep disturbances as a result of bad habits. We’ll review your sleep schedule and habits, and figure out how to get you the rest you deserve.

Exercise

Likewise, movement is very important for your health. In addition to helping you clear toxins, exercise keeps your body strong and injury-free, and contributes to good emotional health.

Hormone Balance

We will talk about your menstrual history (if applicable) and see if there are any areas that need attention. Naturopathic medicine offers many tools to help regulate hormones, including diet, herbs, supplements, and bioidentical hormones when necessary.

Stress and Mental Health

Often our biggest obstacle to good self-care is in our own mind. Trauma, whether physical or emotional, can play a big role in our long-term health. I teach patients various techniques for nervous system regulation, and offer compassionate support in each person’s healing journey.
